Goodreads asked Eric Poole:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Eric Poole Get in a writer's group! There's nothing better than the feedback of people you like and trust.
Then learn how to parse feedback. "I didn't fall asleep halfway through the chapter this time" is likely not a ringing endorsement.
Also - if you feel like you really have talent (i.e. this has been affirmed by someone other than your mother or people who owe you money), don't let one negative opinion drag you down. At one point, I let one agent's total indifference derail me for years. BIG mistake.
