Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) I think it's because Cathy never really grew up. She aged, yes, but she remained an emotional adolescent. She is still trapped in her teenage infatuation with the house, her "grand passion" etc...rather like Emily herself, who was so emotionally attached to her home that she literally became physically ill if she had to spend any length of time away from it.
