The series isn't the same as the movie. Jamie Campbell Bower is a better Jace Wayland, both in looks and acting. Let's all hope that there will be a second movie with all the former actors reprising their role. Just love Lily Collins so much. ^^

They are making it into a tv series instead. I stared watching it on Netflix and it is honestly so disappointing.... Really wish they made it into a movie series instead of the show:'(

IMHO, I think that while the casting for the movie was better, Shadowhunters does a better job of bringing the story to life. There is so much inner dialogue/thoughts/back story in the book that doing a straight adaptation like the movie makes it lose its luster (disclaimer: read the book after seeing the movie - may be the reason for my discontent). The Shadowhunters series does not stick to the books to the letter, but the deviations help fill in gaps and bring to life some of the things that the movie struggles to bring across.

The series is so much better than the movie, it sticks to the storyline but adds on its own features that were much better. The movie just completely follows the book, which is really boring. And Kat and Dom are the best lead actors, even though Lily Collins is so much prettier as Clary.

The first book, City of bones, is already a movie and the rest of the series I think will be made into a T.V. show so they can describe the events more than they could in a movie.

The city of ashes doesnt have a movie, but the first book of the series has already been made into a movie, and was released in 2013
