asked:
I am reading Drums of Autumn and I am trying to recall how Fergus ended up in America. When I read Voyager I remember towards the end when they are going back to Hispaniola to find Ian Jamie leaves Fergus and Marsali on Jamaica. Now only two months later he is witnessing the execution of Jamie's friend. Did he take ship to America after Jamie and Claire arrived? Do they explain this later and I am just not there yet?

I also had this question myself but having read the first 4 books in Outlander saga, I came completely aware of Diana Gabaldon's writing and you will figure out that if you keep reading it you won't have any more questions, she explains it eventually... ;)

Jamie leaves Fergus to stay with Marsali, leaving him instructions to join he and Claire later. BUT, the later did not involve them ending up in America after the storm, and as I am only 9% of the way into Drums of Autumn, I can only assume that some sort of communication was sent from America to Scotland (perhaps Ian writing to his mother?), and that's how Fergus discovers their location. Hopefully, the answer will show up in this book soon.

Fergus goes with Jaimie and Claire, but leaves Marsali on Jamaica with friends.

As I understand it their ship only had a broken mast so after being rescued at the shore of Georgia and while Clare was recovering from broken leg the crew presumably repaired the ship and returned to Jamaica where they contacted Fergus. Since Marsali was pregnant she stayed there while he went to Georgia to join Jaime.

After they rescue little Ian, they board the ship and realize shortly after that they are being followed by the Garrison, it's being led by the young Captain, I believe his name is Leonard and he's after Jamie to arrest him. Both ship are in trouble when they are stuck in a perfect storm and the Captain's ship is swallowed by the storm. The ship that carries Jamie and the crew is being tossed back and forth as well, they all become separated except for Jamie and Claire because he's holding on to her. The end up ship wrecked and end up in the New World unbeknownst to them. Later, we learn that they are in the new world and their host has not only rescued Jamie and Claire but their crew as well that includes Ian and Fergus, etc.

I was also confused about this, as I remember Jamie leaving him behind when going for Ian, as he didn't want to leave his step daughter a widow, but then in the first chapter of "Drums" he is there with them, and there is nothing on how he got to be with them.

Yes, it is explained later.

I don't think they say how he got there but there refer to the fact that he left Marsali in Jamacica with the baby and he will go back for her at some point once settled.
Rebecca
It is explained in the beginning of Drums of Autumn, small blurb, not a lot of details.
