HEART OF OAK was actually the title of a book in my unpublished novel series - although nothing to do with the Royal Navy or Marines. It stemmed from a senior officer singing the song at the battle of Barrosa, 1811.
Gamble is mentioned in the first book by his brother and its then that I thought I'd write a story about Marines during the siege of Acre. That is written, but I went on to write this story set after that instead - a direct sequel. I will go back to Acre, because its a terrific story if I don't say so myself. Gamble will march again.
