I studied history in school and was a military history buff. At the same time, I have collected Rose Bowl memorabilia for about 20 years. A while back, I bought an item related to a playoff series among military training camp teams to qualify for the 1919 Rose Bowl. I had not known about the playoff series until then, but as I investigated the playoff series I recognized that the broader story of military training camp teams playing in the Rose Bowl had never been told. Investigating and writing the story allowed me to combine two of my passions in one effort.

Hi - just finished your book and thought it was excellent - you will see my review up very soon. But before I write it, I just had to ask - are you are a Michigan or Wisconsin fan? I ask because I am a lifetime Minnesota Golden Gopher fan and I chuckled at your joke about the Gophers appearing in past Rose Bowls but are no longer a Division I team. You must have written that line before the 2019 season!

Hello, I just wanted to comment on your article "The Mystery of the Tournament Park Postcards" from your website? Nice article and research. I was glad to read the information you uncovered. My grandfather played for that Pacific Fleet team, but was injured the week previous to the armistice and was unable to play again, I have a team photograph and his uniform. Dave Maus
