Mairead Yes I thought so too. It felt quite forced and I think she only added her into the ending to get people who haven't read the infernal devices to read them.
I also thought the Blackthorns were only in the book to introduce them to the readers of TMI to get them to read her new trilogy The Dark Artifices. And it kinda worked cause I want to know what happens with Emma Carstairs and Julian.
