Nikki Flynn I do not know why she decided to continue the series, probably because she still felt that there was more she needed to tell. But I do know where she got her idea for The Giver. When she was a young kid, she lived in Japan, but in an American coummunity right outside of Tokyo. This coumminty was just like one in America, but there was a wall surrounding it. When Lois Lowry was younger (like 11-13) she would ride her bike outside of the wall and into Tokyo and she was so intrigued by its contrast to her coumminty. That is what inspired her to write The Giver. I believe she mentions this in her acceptance speech when The Giver received the Newberry Medal! I hoped this helped (and sorry for such a lengthy response!)
