Carolyn Ms Gabaldon is an excellent writer. Her characters are complex I love the love story between the main characters > This is a series of eight books so far. We see Jamie from the age of 22 on the threshold of adulthood to middle age and his character is believable at each stage of life.. Claire and Jamie's love story is epic, yet it's not just a love story. It's not a just a romance book really ,It's hard to categorize what genre it is really. It's a romance, historical fiction, an adventure story and time travel all in one. I've been reading this series for about 23 years and can't wait for book 9. Read this book and you'll see why her fans are legion!
Chelle I love the adventure of it. There is more than just a love story going on in the book. The characters are complex and believable, and there is quite a bit of historical knowledge to be learned from it.
Laura I love how Claire tries to keep her secret and figure out the new world she has entered. I love the complexity that allows you to imagine being in her shoes.
Lora Swafford The mystery. The going back in forth from the past to the future. The intense love between Claire and Jaimie. Trying to figure out what really happened, and if they can change the way history was.
Lauren Carl I just started reading this book series and am already up to the 4th book (There are 8 large books in all so far with some smaller novellas which provide details not specific to the main story). What I love about the books/story is that it combines so many different things into one story (time travel (which I confess I have always been interested in), history (author stays true to reality), romance (including a 3 way triangle in the first 3 books), sex (gets pretty erotic at some times), violence (yes the 18th century was violent in Scotland when the Brits were in the process of taking it over), rape and "witchcraft". It is beautifully written. I'm so glad I discovered these and I recommend it highly.
Tina Gabaldon is a good writer. The first few sections are very good, but she seemed to have lost focus at the end. There were loose ends not addressed, as well as a lot of needless stuff that ruined the story, like the Abbey scene and the bit about Jamie and Randell. None at that had to be there.
Chris I love all the historical detail that is the book - going from all the period pieces that go back and forth in time, the romance in the book, the adventures that Claire and Jamie and their families and friends go on.
I love the feel of Scotland in the book --- from the historical to the meds and food and the people along with the landscape and houses. It grabs at your emotions and you either love it or just downright dislike it because of the epic size of the series...I have friends that loved the first three and then quit reading because of keeping up with all the characters through the whole series!!
