Goodreads asked Lukas Grey:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Lukas Grey Well, that depends on what's being asked!

As to my most recent published work, I got the idea by writing and forcing myself to write. That book turned out to be Shells and Masks and it just sort of took on a life of its own! The story just sort of continues to spiral and the more I work on it the more the characters seem to love to take me on strange twists and turns!

If, however, you are asking about the story I'm WORKING on, well that's an entirely different story...

For me, I tend to start out with a really trashy idea, and the more I work on it the more it tones down and becomes something that is character driven. I love that about my writing. The current story I'm working on was driven by a really sleazy idea that I came up with for a completely different novel. The basis of the story ended up getting cut from that story, but the more I thought about it, the more interesting it seemed to me to be.

The characters there really seemed to have a story to tell, and the more I worked on it, the more that seemed to be true!
