I was an independent filmmaker for a while in my teens and early to mid twenties and one of the things which I appreciated the most about transitioning to being a writer was the Control aspect. The experience was all up to me, the production, good or bad, was up to me, I did not have to rely on others, convince others, push others, to see the final outcome of the dream.
