ury949 An older kid (like one who could read through a book this size on his own) could read this book - I remember there being sex and animal violence in books I read in sixth grade (Beloved, Call of the Wild). There is so much education in this book, I would't say no if my kid wanted to read it. I wouldn't choose it to read to a first-grader.
Rose Ann Not in my opinion! Animal cruelty described as well as homosexual relationship explored.
Roberta It depends. Are you asking as a parent or are you putting the book in your classroom? There is sex between the author and his boyfriend (stated, not actually described). There are abused animals. The assembly line for killing unwanted shelter dogs was nasty reading. There is a man who has sex with a dog (page 277).
Lisa Anne Morrow I definitely do not believe this book is okay for kids to read, due to the adult content and psychological vocabulary (too difficult for kids to understand).
Melissa Kayden There was some adult content but there was also a lot of stuff that I just don't think kids would be interested in - dog/human psychology, etc. A lot of it would be over a child reader's head.
Sarah No, this book is not for children to read. It is not family friendly.
