Daniel Kubrick's film and King's book are different animals. I love both for what they are, but CAN understand the disappointment King must have felt when seeing what Kubrick had done. Simply put, read 'The Shining', it is simply one of the most gripping and genuinely unsettling chillers I have read, not to mention a fantastic allegory regarding alcoholism and abuse; powerful writing from a man who was sadly too close to the underpinning theme than he could admit, at the time.
