Goodreads asked Yasmine Galenorn:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Yasmine Galenorn The books evolve as I go. I'm able to find ideas just about anywhere I look, actually--my mind just plays the what-if game very well. Flight From Death, the book I just finished writing--the idea for the plot got started on a trip to Port Townsend, where I saw a ghost in the hotel. Now, I've always believed in ghosts, I've seen a few, but the whole town is just steeped in odd energy and the area grabbed hold of me. As I was sitting by the water's edge (the town is on the Strait of Juan de Fuca), I realized this would be the perfect place to set the first Fly By Night book so Shimmer--the blue dragon shifter--could actually go into the water and change beneath it. So the town, the ghost, the water...all just collided together in my mind and while I was sitting there eating lunch, I knew what the plot would be.
