Hi- I'm curious about your stance on whether steampunk (in particular your novels) are science fiction or fantasy? My library has your books in general fiction, scif-fi, and fantasy. Which is odd, because they all take place in the same world. Thanks!

Gail Carriger Funnily enough, early on my books were also put in romance, horror, and (even the adult marketed ones) YA. Honestly my books are, at heart, Gothic Comedies of Manners. But there isn't a category for that. It's one of the issues with writing with mixed tropes. As a general rule, most intellectual types put steampunk into Science Fiction, as it is retro futurism. But I borrow so much from urban fantasy that I'm OK with being shelved there too. I guess my books are Genre fluid.
