A Goodreads user asked:
How does this compare to Hemingway's other works?
Stu I've read this book, 'The Sun Also Rises', 'The Old Man and the Sea', and 'A Farewell to Arms'. This is my favorite by a large margin, even though I've taught 'The Old Man and the Sea' numerous times as an example of direct language. By my limited reckoning, 'The Sun Also Rises' is Hemingway's masterpiece.
Mark Brantingham Each of Hemingway's novels fills a different niche, but For Whom the Bell Tolls is in my opinion his greatest novel. That scene at the end...I can't even talk about it without getting choked up. It's the only book that does that to me.
