I absolutely adore Maisie and her world! I love the characters, the details, and the obvious research and care you put into each book. I’m curious, how many drafts do you typically write before you send a novel to your publisher? I’m an aspiring author myself, and fascinated by the inner workings of those I admire!

This is where I fess up. I write my story and send it to my editor. Given the amount of work I do, I write very deeply, and by the time I finish the novel, the deadline is upon me. This is not usual, but it works for me and my editor. I should add that by the time I start to write, I know where I'm going and how I'm going to get there - much of the book is written in my head. After my editor receives the books, I do two more revisions, and then the book goes into copyediting. And I never, ever revise as I go along - that really is not a good idea.

Huge fan of Maisie Dobbs. My question is two part. When Maurice Blanche took Maisie on as a student when she was 13, she was assigned to read various books from different subjects. I wondered if you will have a list of Maurice Blanche's syllabus or an example like a similar syllabus in one of your future newsletters?

I hope this isn't a duplicate, but is there any way to get the original audio reader back? She was so perfect, just the way I imagined Maisie to sound. I'm not sure what happened, but I wanted to let you know that she did your books justice. Thank you for a wonderful character!

The Maisie Dobbs books are the first I recommend to friends looking for a new mystery series. I describe them as up there with Dorothy Sayers in the quality of the writing. Maisie is such a complex character with practicing meditation as well as her innate intelligence, perseverance and above all, kindness. She is totally unselfish. Will she ever find personal contentment with a new love interest?
