Okay so my teacher told me that there are more unemployed college graduates than high school drop outs. He has a way of boosting our spirits! Anyway, was wondering what your situation was like.

Lauren I'm still in school and working part time at a bank. At first it was just for income, but now I want to get into bank management training after graduation.

message 2: by Lynn (new)

Lynn I'm not worried about getting a job in my field once I graduate. Speech path is on the rise for at least the next few years. I don't want to say I'm garunteed a job, but it feels like I will be able to find once fairly easily as long as I'm open to moving.

But I love working random places too. During the school year I tutor other college students and do workstudy in admissions with non-traditional students. I'm probably going to end up being one of those people who puts the career on hold to do all sorts of extended volunteer jobs.

i graduated in december with my BS in Business Administration..i have been looking for a job since then..it got soo bad and i couldn't find a job that i started applying at stores in the mall just to make some money. I just got a job this past week..I mean i'm still looking because i don't want to work a job that I could have had right out of high school..and get paid crap...but at the same time..i want to get into the fashion industry and i know i need retail experience..sooo..yeah..that's my deal

sara frances I'm working but I'm not currently in classes. With the economy as it is, I feel no rush to graduate. All i care about is having a decent job right now, and I got that.

I feel blessed that I have a job that I consider a career! I work for a CPA firm and since my schooling is leading to that certification, I hope to be here until I retire.

I love the people at my work, and love that it keeps me close to all my family, and I also enjoy the work.

Janet I'm not working because of school but my boyfriend graduated in May and still hasn't found a career type job. He just applied for 70...yep you read it right...70 jobs!! Hopefully something comes out of it!!

Abigail (42stitches) I have a funny, related story I will share. I got my B.A. last spring in sculpture, so I never really expected to get a related job. However, I was very pleased when I moved cross-country to Kansas and after only 3 months of looking found a job in garment repair. Since my work is mostly textile and I love making clothes, this was my dream job before I even knew it existed. The day I got hired I told my husband I had great news and he said he had something to tell me too. When he got home he said "I lost my job, but I got another one. We are moving to Mississippi. What's your news?" I almost cried. The area we moved to is really depressed. Whenever we talk to people about why we moved here (for his work) they say "Why would you come here to look for work? There isn't any..." We wouldn't have moved if there wasn't already a job.

Good luck to anyone who is on the hunt. My advice is don't move anywhere until you already have an offer and a moving bonus/incentive.

April I'm currently working (local government) and TOTALLY hate it while I'm attending school. This job has nothing to do with my major and I can't WAIT to find another job/start my career!

message 9: by Janet (new)

Janet Hmm April...where do you live!? Haha, I am pretty sure my boyfriend would LOVE to take your job. If it's government stuff, then that is what he is looking for! Haha ;)

message 10: by April (new)

April Pennsylvania...come and get it. I'm leaving here as soon as I can!!

message 11: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I'm staying at home to raise our two daughters and finish school. I want to be done by the time my youngest is ready for school (she's 2 1/2) and then I'll go back to work. Hope the economy improves by then!

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com I'm working in my field. I also have a job in retail to help pay the bills. AND... I own my own business. So, I guess I do a little of everything.

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I am currently still in school. I was working in the field I want to get my masters in which will have nothing to do with my BA. However right now my husband is in the Air Force and moving so much I dont think that I will ever be able to have a career type job.

What I really want to do it get my BA and go and get an MLS and work as a reference librarian. I started in high school shelving books and worked my way up to a circulation staff member that did light reference work also. I loved it. So I wont be using my physics degree. I worked in the same library for 9 years and only left because we had to move due to my husbands job.

All I want to do now is work at libraries and be around books. It is my dream job!

Ashley I changed my vote. I'm currently working at McDonald's but I am also going to school, working towards my Associate's Degree. My goal is to get a job as a teacher assistant to gain experience and work towards becoming a teacher.

message 15: by Heather (DeathByBook) (last edited Jun 16, 2011 10:36PM) (new)

Heather (DeathByBook) I was working as a Geographer in the field I was interested in while taking occasional classes toward completing my BA, but I became very ill. I had to leave both my job and school around 6 years ago when I was diagnosed with a severe case of a chronic disease. Now I have returned to school part time and hope to eventually get degrees in Geography or History & Library Sciences.

Before becoming a Geographer I worked in book retail for over 10 years.
