Have gone for the white mountains, it seems to jog a memory of a tv series from when I was a early teens or even younger, kind of in the realm of blake 7 but it bit more modern.. or am i thinking of something else..

I also have to find out if I can get these books from anywhere..
It is a great book, if you can find it. The series is one of my favorite and I would love to read it again. It's full of action and suspense (kind of).
