“If you weren’t listening properly with those freakish pointed ears of yours, I should inform you that I am a Demonslayer. I’d never help you.”
“Fuck’s sake, Yumi,” Henry rasped while shaking his head. “You’re a bundle of chaos, no matter where you go and what you do.”
“I would be dead if it wasn’t for that Duskwalker. I had a sword through my chest, and he healed me!” Then he nearly pressed his nose to Klaus’ with his teeth gritted. “Talk shit like that about him, and I’ll break your nose again.”
If only it was that easy. She knew it was too late. Or was it? Cordon’s golden medallion glinting in the sun caught her attention. A day... What if I put his skull back together before a day passes? Her heart, which had been drowning, beat faster to match her rapid thoughts. What if that’s all I need to do?
Whatever she’d brought back, it was no longer her sweet, funny Duskwalker. And it was gaining on her.
“This isn’t what I wanted!” she screamed when a second snowball splattered against his shoulder. “I didn’t want you to turn into some zombie freak of a fucking Duskwalker!”
“How dare you do this to me!” she screamed with every fibre of her being. “How dare you come here and let me fall in love with you, only to fucking die! How dare you save me as a child and start my infatuation with you! You probably ate my fucking cat, you carnivorous jerk!”
“Why couldn’t you just have remained as a creepy monster in the shadows and left me to live by myself?!” She knew her tears were falling faster, flinging off her flesh as she screamed and tossed. “Why couldn’t you be just like the Demons and try to kill me rather than protect me? I never asked you to come here and be so amazing, to change my life and give me hope that I could actually be happy for once. So why?!”
“Why did you have to be so damn funny and caring and so damn perfect for me, Faunus? Every day you pretended to be okay when I could tell you were just as broken on the inside as your stupid face, and I couldn’t help falling for that part of you... because it was just like me. I hate you. I hate you so much for leaving me here like this. I hate your stupid, pretty face and your stupid, warm body and your stupid personality. I tried so hard to save you. I tried everything I could think of that wouldn’t cause you pain.”
“I’ve never lost someone who made me feel so whole. How am I supposed to find my place in a world I know for certain you’re not in?” Snow, like soft, light dandelion puffs, fell around them both. “How am I to find someone who felt like they were the other half of me when I know it was you... in all your big, fluffy glory? I hate you so much for doing this to me.” Then she whispered, “And I love you so damn much that it feels like my heart is burning.”
Why does everyone I love leave me?
“I did not answer your question. I am Weldir, semidei Custos Tenebris.” A hand waved downwards with a swish before puffing away into cloud. “Or, to a human, Weldir, Warden of the Darkness.”
“Weldir? As in Faunus’ father, the spirit of the void guy?” The chuckle that came from him was warm. “Calling me the spirit of the void is the equivalent of me calling you the human of this clearing. It has no meaning. It is nothing more than a description.” Well... how the hell was I supposed to know that? It’s all Faunus had really told her.
“What are your other tasks then, oh great demigod of darkness?” “You remind me of Lindiwe. Quick to anger, and yet cold. Are you sure your soul was not cut from the same flame as hers?”
For two whole days they avoided sex in the middle of her cycle, yet here she was, carrying this horny Duskwalker’s baby. Once she’d realised, after vomiting what he called darkness from her stomach – which sucked horribly – they’d both discussed their options.
