The gate, which had been securely locked, stood open in welcome. Everything seemed to be welcoming him. A sense of peace began to steal into his heart. A part of him wanted to sit on one of the inviting benches and soak in the atmosphere.
Christine
This was so fun! It was a chance to let people know that there was something magical about the gate and was the beginning of giving the house its own personality. I love when a place is almost a character itself. Also, I wanted to show the magic of acceptance. When you feel not a part of something for so long and then suddenly there’s acceptance and you belong it’s like a miracle. The gate accepted him in. It was an important moment.

“The gate opens for the right man, doesn’t it? Isn’t that how it works? The gate will swing open in welcome for the man who is destined to become the love of the eldest child’s life.”
Christine
So starts the prophecies! LOL The sisters are so funny together and I love that they were teasing Sarah about Damon. I have ten sisters and growing up with all of them is one of the joys of my life. It was really fun writing about a group of sisters and re-living some of that teasing and sisterly bond through the Drakes. I remember when my older sister, Renee started dating. She was the eldest so this was all new to us girls. She came home from her date and we all wanted to know if she’d get a kiss so we piled up to peek out the window. Unfortunately, we were a giddy bunch and could not suppress our laughter. Sorry, Renee. LOL

So did Renee get her kiss, or did her kid sisters blow it for her?

Rhonda, I wish I could remember. I'll have to ask her. My guess is that she did, which likely made us all laugh even more!

She knew all about Damon Wilder. One of the smartest men on the planet. A government’s treasure. The one-man think tank that had come up with one of the most innovative defense systems ever conceived. His ideas were pure genius, far ahead of their time. He was a steady, focused man. A perfectionist who never overlooked the smallest detail.
Christine
Damon’s super power was his intelligence. He was brilliant, methodical and logical, which made him perfect for one of the Drake sisters and their magic. Also, I thought it was important to show that different men can be attractive. They don’t all have to be James Bond. Damon had a limp and was surly, but Sarah thought he was the hottest guy around.

“Do you always lie in the dark on your bed and swear at the ceiling?” Sarah asked quietly. “Because that could become a real issue later on in our relationship.”
Christine
Despite the seriousness of any situation the Drakes tend to turn to humor to offset the drama, danger or sadness. I find I’m like that as well. I try to find humor in what I can so the heaviness that life can bring can be lightened, if just a little, by humor.

I love the light-hearted teasing! That's one of the best things about your books -- a sense of humor.

Doris- I laughed even as I imagined it and wrote.

Lisa- Ha! So glad it was worth a second read!

Karen- I try to use humor whenever I can. Humor, like love, binds us all.

“Holy smoke.” Jonas held out his hand to Damon. “You’re a god. Kissing a Drake woman is dangerous, kind of like taking a chance on kissing a viper. You just dove right in and went for it.” He pumped Damon’s hand with great enthusiasm.
Christine
I love Jonas and I’ve known all along he would always be a main staple in Sea Haven. He and Hannah have their own book in Safe Harbor, but Jonas is in the Sea Haven series and Torpedo Ink. As long as a story involves Sea Haven, we’ll have the potential of seeing Jonas. My love for Jonas has a lot to do with his courage but also with his humor, which we get a lot of with this series. And, I wanted the heroes, as they came in turn, to have a relationship with each other. This was a great way to allow Jonas and Damon to become friends. And it’s important to remember that men can get nervous around women.

The seven become one when united.’ All the symbols have meanings as well. Several are symbols of protection.
Christine
I love symbolism. Whether it’s the Drake Sisters, GhostWalkers, Shadow Riders or Torpedo Ink I try to find ways to incorporate symbols, crests or tattoos with meaning. Here, Damon tells Jonas what the saying on the Drake house gate says. I believe that having friends and family come together makes a stronger bond for all.

They’re magic and they have very real powers. Libby is a doctor and I’ve seen her work miracles. Abigail is a loose cannon sometimes. She utters the word ‘truth’ and everyone around her starts telling every secret they have. Hannah’s just plain scary. Elle’s very quiet and she doesn’t talk much about what she can or can’t do, but if she loses her temper, she could probably flatten Sea Haven. It drains them, though, to use their gifts. I’ve seen them to the point they can’t walk or even talk. They drop in their tracks and it takes time for them to recover.”
Christine
Power has a cost and I stay true to that in all of my series. It’s important to me that I establish the rules of my world early on. I don’t want to set up a laundry list of rules, so some come out in later books, but establishing the ground roots of the world helps keep the story more grounded and believable in the context of a normal world. I wanted people to know that each sister has a different talent that they bring to the table. Because everyone has different talents and gifts that they bring.

Sharing a day with someone you care about is worth all the gold in the world. I didn’t know that before I met you.”
Christine
This is one of those things that is my own personal belief. I have a large family and we’re scattered across the United States. Being together is its own kind of magic.

“You brought me life, Sarah. You handed me my life. I existed before I met you, but I wasn’t living.”
Christine
There’s a difference between existing and living. I believe that with my whole heart. When you find that someone special who completes you, makes you a better person, your life catches fire with awareness and passion and you’re forever changed by that.

“Seven sisters intertwined, controlling elements of land, sea, and air, cannot control the fate they flee. One by one, oldest to last, destiny will find them. When the locked gate swings open in welcome, the first shall find true love. There’s a lot more, but basically it goes on to say, one by one all the other sisters shall be wed.”
Christine
Sarah shares this prophecy with Damon and talks about how she thought it was a curse at first, until she met him. She goes on to say the prophecy says all the sisters will find love, one-by-one. A prophecy, true love, seven sisters all ready for adventure and love. I find that, when one door closes, people often get caught up in that instead of looking around to see if another door opened.
