My mama always told me stories of princesses falling in love, getting married and living happily ever after. I stopped believing in them as I looked at my parents’ relationship. I saw nothing worth fighting for. I don’t need love to be happy.

The DJ is playing early 2000s songs tonight and we’re mouthing all the lyrics to ‘Baby Boy’ by Sean Paul and Beyoncé.
Rule number one: never gloat about how much money you make. Most women don’t get off on egotism.
It gets lonely sometimes, but you can still feel alone even if you have someone. It’s life’s cruelest irony.
As we navigate through the throng of partiers, I take in my surroundings. I like to prowl ordinary places, people-watch, and observe them interact. I’d sometimes rather go unnoticed and fade into the crowd than be the center of attention.
“You? A precious mafia princess. Hurt me?”
“You listen to me closely, little girl. You might be a sight for sore eyes, but I’ve had enough of you running that pretty mouth.”
What doesn’t kill you gives you a lot of unhealthy coping mechanisms, and this one is mine. Feeling physical pain numbs the mental anguish I feel inside.
It’s five a.m. The early bird gets the worm, as they say. I can’t be bothered to be surrounded by people. I’m more comfortable alone with my thoughts.
The Diávolos. The Devil. I didn’t get that nickname for nothing. I’m ruthless as fuck and I’m not scared to eliminate our enemies, even if it means getting my hands dirty.
I became a different person when I tapped into my rage. I knew I was fractured, but this was how I made peace with myself.
They say, ‘to know your inner demon is to know yourself,’ and I can tell you it’s true.
She had to fake a smile all night and pretend to be happy in front of friends, family, and strangers. She was miserable and couldn’t wait for the night to end before it even began.
“You are absolutely beautiful in your natural element, Angelica. Don’t be ashamed. Any woman would kill to look like you right now,”
