The phone goes still, and I watch until my screen goes black, then unlock my phone and reread the whole thread, smiling until my cheeks cramp.
“You agreed to marry me next month.”
“Forget the contract. Forgive me, please, and let me love you like the daughter I never had.”
I want to marry her.
“Sweet dreams, my Southern belle. This could be real, anytime you want it to be. Just say the word.”
“The case doesn’t matter. You matter.”
Suddenly, Thayden is kissing me and my words are gone.
“I’ll make every meal for you if you want. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don’t need to go to work. I’ll just stay here and be yours.”
I’m Verity.”
“There’s a heating pad in the cabinet. Do you need aspirin?” He pauses. “Maxi pads? Uh, tampons? I could go to the store. Or, do you, use one of those cup things to—”
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Delilah Hart. But I wanted to say it first,”
I’m going to marry the love of my life. That’s all that matters.
“I love you, Mrs. Walker,” I say between kisses. “And I love you, Mr. Walker.
“Hey, D? What’s this duct tape thing—oh! It has a bunny tail! Ohhhh, Delilah!”
