Bloodthirsty Queen. It was who they were expecting, who they feared—and rightly so. She had earned her reputation over the centuries.
“The fabled World Ender. The legend. The Son of Unir. Wielder of the Blade of Oblivion. And where is he?”
I had carved her a place of peace with claws and broken bones, paying for her safety with rivers of blood.
“Better to die by what you think is right than to live under a lie.”
He was every bit as magnificent as the books had described.
Both darkness and fire bend to her will, which makes her extremely dangerous—lethal, even.
She roused emotions in me that made me forget what she was and what she was capable
“It’s okay to not be okay, Liam.”
He smiled, and gravity shifted, pulling me toward him as if he were my anchor.
I wouldn’t allow anything to dim her spirit.
I understood she cared for her sister, but who cared for her?
“You’re sweet when you’re homicidal.” “I don’t know what that means.”
“You already consume my every waking thought. Must you consume my dreams as well?”
The World Ender.
found Dianna’s pithy comments did not bother me, but I had images of ripping his tongue out almost every time he spoke.
“A word of advice then, World Ender. Do not fill her head with pretty words. Do not make her beautiful gowns. Do not take her on midnight strolls through a garden or give her handpicked flowers. Kaden has fed her scraps for years to keep her in line. She is a woman who craves love, no matter what she says. If you have no intention of staying or being with her, don’t court her and make her care. Don’t be the one to make her fall if you have no intention of catching her.”
“Do not compare Dianna to any of my past conquests.”
Dianna’s touch set fire to a place inside me, and I found myself wanting to burn.
Dianna, you are already dangerous. Now let’s make you lethal.”
“Don’t you know? Love is the purest form of destruction there is.”
Oh, what a fool I was. I had fallen for someone who had no intention of catching me.
For a moment, I, slayer of beasts, destroyer of worlds, feared her.
I knew nothing of love, but I knew I wanted her, needed her, and dreamed of her.
It was the most selfish desire in the world, but I wanted her more than a crown, more than a throne, more than air.
More than that, she owned me—and she didn’t even know it.
“I’d never abandon you.”
You would have to be an ignorant fool not to think you are anything but extraordinary, Dianna.”
