Putin returns to a familiar theme in the last part of his article. It amounts to a grumpy denunciation of America and Kyiv’s current Western outlook. Under U.S. tutelage Ukraine was an “anti-Russian project,” Putin sneers. Contemporary Ukraine is a place where neo-Nazis are indulged, ethnic Russians murdered, “spiritual unity” thrown aside, and multigenerational ties of family and friendship forged in the struggle against German fascism forgotten.
