I’m as blessed as anyone I know. Critics, too, have been my teachers. I needed to know where I’d spoken out of turn, taught wrongly, or been misunderstood. As humiliating as it could be, I also needed to see at times how others saw me or hear at times how they heard me. Those in the public eye will never be relieved of criticism. It’s baked in and probably should be. The trick to dealing with criticism is letting it do its good work but forbidding it to demoralize and destroy or to embitter.
