Sometimes the hardest thing in the world was to be supportive.
When teenage girls are finding their voices, they can be forgiven for misplacing the volume dial.
No magic, no phone. Great. What were you meant to do? Talk to people? Hideous.
Sometimes the prospect of being able to do anything is so overwhelming you end up doing nothing.
‘The great lie of Belial,’ Calista said. ‘That men deserve the world, and women deserve men. It is up to the fathers to decide whether they share the lie, and the sons to decide if they believe it.’ ‘But yes,’ Zehra said. ‘Women have a natural predator, and it is man.’
You learn the hard way that every girl wants to think they’re not like other girls, and that’s because girls are regarded so poorly by the world.
