Rescuing abandoned babies isn’t commanded or even commended by Jesus or New Testament authors. Food was scarce and homes were small. Babies died all the time. Why would anyone put their own family at risk on behalf of an abandoned child? Refusing to expose your own children is one thing, but rescuing someone else’s?
