It feels exotic and different from the way anyone else has ever said my name—maybe vaguely European. It reminds me of the first syllables of Ave Maria being sung by a choir and echoing across grand church ceilings. It reminds me of the warmth of Andrea Bocelli or Pavarotti belting out those lyrics in Latin.
As powerful and strong as his body is, I imagine there’s a sensitive, vulnerable soul in there that is prone to injury just like the rest of us. And he’s definitely been injured. I can see it in his eyes.

I extend my arms to reach for him. “Can you please come here?” I ask, feeling embarrassed at how needy and childish this is. But also not really caring. The mountain destroyed my pride when it tried to destroy me.
