To everyone searching for a true family. If you weren’t given one from birth, may you find it out in the world, and may you know down to your bones that you’re understood and loved. Always. Even when you’re lost. Even when you don’t feel lovable. No matter what.
Even if he landed the role of a lifetime today, he might still have a serious problem. One he had no idea how to solve. And her name was Maria.
She’d hurt his stupid fee-fees by not wanting more than a single night with him, especially when he’d been so damn hungry for as much of her as he could get.
Too bad he was a jerk, because she wanted to lick him like an ice cream cone.
“He loved her with all his heart, Maria. I mean that,” he added when she looked at him with open skepticism. “But empathy requires imagination, and he didn’t have enough of either.”
She’d always understood him more than he understood her. Just as, over time, she’d grown to love him more than he loved her. Or maybe she was being unfair. Maybe differing priorities didn’t mean differing amounts of love. That was how it felt, though.
“Here’s to Ron and R.J.” Carah raised her glass one final time. “You’ve been fucking around for a long time now, assholes. Welcome to the find out portion of your career.”
