On some website that morning, I’d watched a video of two identical-looking blondes spray-painting I CAN’T BREATHE on the facade of a Starbucks in Los Angeles. “What are you doing?” a Black protester shouted. “That’s something I’m going to get blamed for. My people. Who asked for your help anyway?”
