When I think about being with someone, that’s what I’m looking for. I’m not really interested in the big displays of affection like bouquets of flowers or expensive jewelry. Just someone who knows that the minute I walk into the house after a bad day, I just need a hug. Someone who orders my favorite takeout and surprises me with movie night at home on the couch. Someone who shows me how important I am in his life. I think it’s the little things that add up day after day to make a big romance.
“With those pants and that ass, you don’t need luck.” Chevelle smacks my ass and my cheeks heat before I even get out there.
“We all know you’re waiting on Cam,” Posey says. Everyone quiets. “I do not like Cam.” Chevelle looks disgusted.
“You know, Noah, that a lady should never sacrifice. The man who loves her should make sure she gets what she wants. If you truly love her, you won’t allow her to skimp on her own enjoyment.” He raises both eyebrows.
His compliments about my looks are more blatant now and I can’t deny that I love them. No one has ever made me feel as wanted or as beautiful as Noah Winters, which is probably a little sad since we’re not even a real couple.
“I have no idea how I’ll ever walk away from you. It will be the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”
And the fact that there will be someone after me pisses me the fuck off. Because I wanna be the man. I wanna be the man who can live in a small town with you, raise babies, and sit on a porch watching our grandchildren play. A man who is okay with a simple life, who doesn’t thirst for adventure. I wish so badly I was him, you have no idea.”
I’ll always look back on my time with Noah with love, but I need to choose myself this time around. The irony is that Noah is the one who taught me that lesson.
