His gaze darkened further, his blue eyes going almost black. “You have a death wish, little wolf.” Somehow that rankled more than mutt or half-breed. He couldn’t have been much older than I was. “No, I’ve just got nothing to lose.”
“What did I do in my past life to piss the gods off this much?” I grumbled to myself. “All I want is someone to actually want me, is that too much to ask?”
A single, low howl pierced through everything, the loudest and most haunting one of all. When I look down at the group, Kaden had his head tilted back toward the moon, which danced across his black fur. The rest of the wolves fell silent at his signal.
"Not bad. Though I bet you could howl louder under the right circumstances."
He wasn’t my mate, but something about this felt as if it had been destined.
At the same time, Kaden picked me up and hauled me over his shoulder, while I let out a shriek.
“How the hell are you so good at this?” I gasped out. “I’m unmated, not celibate."
He pushed his cock into me roughly, no gentleness this time, and leaned over my back. “We’re going to be here all night,” he growled in my ear. “Fucking until the sun rises. I’m going to have you every way, every position. This is what you signed up for when you asked for my help, Ayla.”
“This can’t happen ever again," he said. Then he left without another word. The slam of the door was so loud it vibrated through me. I closed my eyes, the mortification filling me. Once again, I'd been rejected by a man I thought might actually care about me. How the hell was I supposed to live in this house with him now?
seriously, I had no idea you were in heat, or that you were Kaden's woman." "I'm definitely not his woman," I sputtered. "That bite mark on your neck says otherwise," the guy next to Jack said. "I'm Tanner, by the way. I'd shake your hand but I don't want Kaden to bite mine off."
Harper waggled her eyebrows at me. "From what I heard, you're the one charming snakes. Kaden's snake, anyway."
“We call them hugs, Kaden,” I said. “They’re used to show gratitude among people who aren’t emotionally stunted.”
"Little wolf, you were never broken, only beaten and bruised. All you needed was someone to believe in you."
"Kaden." I had to say something or I would regret it forever. "No matter what happens when we meet the Leos, I need you to know this. You're the one I want. Not him."
