“Some bonds can never be broken, Emilia. And some choices have consequences akin to death.
“Choose him and you’ll give up part of yourself,”
“Simply saying ‘I love you; I’m pleased you’re all right’ would have sufficed, too.”
I still wanted to claim my king in the flesh. That, more than anything else, would soothe me, mind, body, and cursed soul.
Wrath, the mighty demon of war, was giving me a sponge bath. And it felt positively divine.
“There is a hexed blade that can kill me.”
“While I admitted to being fond of knife play, I’m afraid this one is off-limits. We can play with my dagger. The magic imbued in it won’t hurt me.”
“I believe I’m powerful, therefore I am.”
Stride into a space, act as if you own it, and bow to no one.
“Tick tock, goes the clock, counting down your dread. Unless you cede, you’ll watch more bleed. To pay you back, the next attack will be the highest head, dearest Prince of Greed.”
“Right now, I want the demon, not the prince. Show me why they call you the Wicked.” I grabbed his shirt and tugged him to me, my lips hovering above his. “And don’t you dare hold back.”
“And he is her fate. As she is his. ‘As above, so below.’ They are the balance. Light and dark. One fallen from above, and one created in the underworld below.”
To be forced to stand when you wished to fall. To get up on your own and defy the hand of fate that brought so much pain by smacking you down time and again. To choose to live and flourish despite the bad. And most important, to dare to dream of better days while your current world was a living nightmare.
My life. My House. My power.
