“By the way, Kit …” The darkness looming beyond the glare of the work light thickened. Shadows writhed to life, oozing upward like smoky tendrils. The Ghost smiled icily. “The shadows of your ‘warps’? They aren’t nearly convincing enough.” He pulled his hood up—and a swirl of shadow formed around him. The darkness swept over his body, and when it faded, he was gone without a trace. Lienna and I stared at the spot he’d vanished in frightened silence. “Shit,” I muttered weakly. “He really is the Ghost.”
