But those eyes were the vibrant blue of a clear sky instead of green, and that blood-matted hair was golden instead of brown; it was Ivy looking at him. It was Ivy in Zurvashi’s clutches. And Ketahn could only watch as the queen squeezed and tore, as bone shattered, and veins burst. As everything he cared about, everything he loved, was crushed.
Ahnset had brought Ella to Takarahl despite Ketahn forbidding it. Now Ella was dead, and Ketahn was Zurvashi’s prisoner, cast into the deep, dark place where the queen sent her enemies to wither and die. My mate. My Ivy. My everything.
Yeah im pissed with Ahnset i dont give a rats FUCK if she was trying to help they wouldve been better off running into the forest for menders root than going into the city with Spider Donald Trump at the helm!
“You behave like a wild beast,” Zurvashi continued. Her mandibles twitched, making the shadows on her face tremble. “The best male Takarahl can offer. Disloyal, disrespectful, and incapable of achieving his true potential. Such a waste.” She shoved Ketahn’s head back hard, releasing his throat. “I had hoped for so much more from you.”
Ketahn tore the broken shaft free. Blood spurted from the hole in Leteki’s throat and poured down her chest. Even as her muscles relaxed and her body went limp, Ketahn jabbed the splintered shaft into her throat again, and again, and again, barely hearing the guttural sounds escaping him as he did so.
At least the ache in her pelvis had dulled enough for her to ignore it. Ketahn had told her to remain inside, in the safety of the sealed room, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t stay in there any longer, locked in a cage while he was out dealing with who knew what. While he was in danger.
“You’re sure?” Diego asked. Ivy nodded and straightened. “Yeah. Likely just…woman stuff, you know?” “Ah. Gotcha.” Diego stood with a crooked smile. “Too bad we don’t have anything to help that.” “I wish.” “What is woman stuff?” Ketahn asked as Diego stepped away. Her cheeks warmed as she faced Ketahn. “It’s…human stuff. Normal stuff.” He grunted and caught her chin. “That explains nothing, Ivy.”
Dropping the leaves into the hole, Ivy looked between her legs. More blood was smeared upon her inner thighs and stained the crotch of her jumpsuit. “Damn it.” Of course her period had started. It made sense given the cramping, and it had only been a matter of time, right? But this was the last thing she needed to deal with, especially now. Rising, she covered the hole with dirt using her boot and eased closer to the rocks. She splashed herself clean, cursing as the cool water slid down her legs, then washed her thighs. Next, she sat on the stone ledge next to one of the pools and scrubbed the

Rain poured down on her, trickling into the open collar of her jumpsuit to run over her skin, as she crawled out of the shelter and forced herself upright. She had only taken a few steps before she doubled over, hugging her belly, and vomited. Acid burned her throat, a harsh contrast to the freezing raindrops pelting her.
Ketahn grunted. “You fought well. But now you must walk instead of talk.” “Always a partee pooper, huh?” “I do not know partee, but I have not made poop on it.” A laugh burst from Ivy. She slapped a hand over her mouth to muffle the sound, but it escaped again when Diego said, “If you don’t know what it is, how do you know you haven’t pooped on it?”
“Conquer me. Make me yours, again and again.” Ketahn opened his mouth to graze her shoulder with his teeth, making her shudder again. “I have conquered you, female.” “Prove it. As you did before.” The mating frenzy stirred deep within him. He slid his fingers into her hair and grasped it, muscles trembling with that rising instinct, with that consuming need. But he would not give in yet. He would be the one to claim Ivy. He would be the one to mate her, by his will, by his choice. He was the conqueror.
“You are mine.” She dipped a hand into the paint and pressed it over his hearts, which thumped harder beneath her touch. “Hearts.” She moved her hand down, placing it just over his slit and making his claspers stir. “Body.” Now she coated both hands in paint and lifted them, cupping each side of his face. “Spirit. You and I are as one, Ketahn.”
Zurvashi ran straight onto the spear. The impact of its head piercing her lower abdomen jolted through the shaft. Ivy fell backward, landing hard on her ass. The queen’s legs skidded on the damp ground, her injured foreleg buckling and making her drop onto the lowest joint, driving the spear deeper.
Ketahn’s chin dipped, and his mandibles twitched as he looked at the ground. His nose holes flared with a deep inhalation. Voice thick with concern, he said, “Ivy… What is this? What is happening?” Placing both hands on her belly, she looked up at Ketahn with wide, uncertain eyes. “The baby is coming.”
