You are young. You are beautiful. You are brilliant. And someone out there is going to deserve your heart and mind even more than I ever did.
“I bought this place to start my future. It’s important to know what you want. I wanted land and crops and work that I look forward to. But more, I wanted a place to raise a family. That’s my plan, and I don’t want to detour from that. When I bring whoever the future Mrs. Pierce is here, I don’t want her facing any shadows from the past. I bought this place for her.” “Well, hell,” she breathed. “How am I supposed to make fun of that? That’s the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard,”
“Can’t keep an old guy like me down. How’s my little girl?” he asked with so much affection that Phoebe felt like holding on to him forever. He smelled like Old Spice.
“Tell me what you want,” she whispered. “I want to give you what you want.”
I see community. A town that never gives up on anyone. One that butts in even when it’s not wanted. Neighbors that show up to help without being asked because they know you and love you.
Grief called for movement. Anything to keep you going forward one step at a time.
Somedays, the gratitude she felt for her life overwhelmed her. Life was hard, but that’s what made it so incredibly good. That’s what made her appreciate every second that she had on this earth. Even on the darkest day, there was still beauty to see, still love to find. There was still a beginning to find in every end. She knew that now and hoped that her family knew it, too.
