I went to see Pearl’s youngest graduate from Howard [University], and some of the children on campus were wearing shirts that said, IT’S A BLACK THING—YOU WOULDN’T UNDERSTAND. And ooh, honey, the white people get so mad about stuff like that, about anything that excludes them, but I would laugh and laugh. Because it’s true!
