Don’t you know those guys would switch it up for the next take, pluck or hit something a teeny bit different, so that the sound had more looseness, more silliness, even though it was the same notes? I was like, Wow. That was incredible to me. That was magic. It’s true that I had a lot to learn about the process, but I got so wrapped up in everything, in being with Nev in the center of this hurricane, that my excitement kicked my nerves right on out the room. Up till then I had spent so much time freaking the hell out that I had not made room for the notion that hey, this might be fun.
