Alas! It is not our printed apologetics for Christianity, but the visible reformation of its followers that both saves its honor and removes the fatal stumbling blocks from unbelievers that causes them to stagger and fall into eternal punishment.
A heart well-kept can be compared to the eye, which is a good metaphor for it: if a particle of dust gets into the eye, it will never stop winking and watering until it has wept it out; in the same way, the upright heart cannot rest until it has wept out its troubles and poured out its complaints before the Lord.
they are not in their right mind, and so is every unconverted sinner (Luke 15:17).2 If you went to a mental institution and heard one rail at you, another mock you, and a third threaten you, would you then say, “I will be revenged upon them!”? No, you would instead go away pitying them, saying “Alas, poor creatures, they are out of their minds and do not know what they are saying.”
