“Oh, somewhere deep inside these bones, an emptiness began to grow.” Jack Skellington
While I’ve always found living women attractive, they’re terrifying beings. They’ll cut you deeper than any blade ever could and laugh while you bleed.
It’s been ten years since that day, and my infatuation has only grown. I know his preferences, so it’s likely I will never feel him while alive, however, once I muster the courage, I plan to ask him to be with me when I die.
I am Skeleton King. Gravedigger, taxidermist, and necrophiliac. The industry of decay is my kingdom, cemeteries my solace. I’m a nightmare merchant that thrives in the darkness. I belong in the cold, not with her light and warmth. Her beauty would only deteriorate in my presence.
Without shame or regret, we use each other’s bodi es to drown in euphoria. I want so badly to tell her I love her, but I can’t make the words separate from my tongue.
I don’t know if I’ll ever stop being scared that she’ll change her mind about me someday, but in these moments with her, I’m convinced they’re worth the fear.
Her laugh is a sound I’ve heard so many times today. I swear it’s made the room visibly brighter. Things between us seem so easy, so natural that I’m almost superstitious enough to believe that maybe we were supposed to be together all along.
It’s an intense feeling to be fully accepted and loved for exactly who I am. She chose me, and I don’t know how to ever repay her for that. Or if I’ll even have the chance to.
It’s odd that I’m less scared about being hanged than I am about losing her. At least if I’m dead, I won’t know what I’m missing.
Sighing, I lift her chin. “The only thing I’m scared of is losing you.”
When she pulls away, the words lurch from my throat in a frantic whisper. “I love you.”
Cutting off my thoughts, her mouth crashes to mine as she hugs her arms around my neck.
“I’ve loved you since I was nine years old. All I’ve ever wanted was to hear you say that.”
Every dark and damaging thought festering in my mind evaporates the momen...

My heart’s booming in my chest, yet somehow, I keep my voice even.
“Thank you.”

“For what?”

There’s never been a single moment I’ve ever experienced that’s made me feel this…drunk on bliss. We smile against each other’s lips at the promise we just made to each other. It’s me and her. John and Sarah. Forever.
