“You’re wasting your time here. I got over you a long time ago, Saint.” The noise he made was somewhere between a growl and purr. “I never got over you. And I finally gave up trying.”
Walking out on you was the biggest mistake I ever made in my life. And I’ve been sorry for it every day since. I’ve never gotten over you, even when I tried. I’m done trying to forget you. And I’m not going to stop doing whatever it takes to win you back.”
“I never stopped loving you. I fell for you when you tossed me in the pool, and I have never, not even for a single second since, stopped loving you. You are it for me Waverly Sinner, and the sooner you face it, the easier it will be for both of us.”
Waverly bucked against him again, pleading without words for him to fill her. But still he waited until she opened those hazy eyes. And then, only then, did he bury himself in her. Joined, they were one. One soul. One pleasure. One need.
“By the way, this wasn’t a fluke or a one-night stand or a mistake. We’re back together,” he announced and slammed the door on any denial she tried to throw his way.
“He says he loves me.” Sylvia nodded, waited. “I don’t want to love him.”
“Don’t turn your back on once-in-a-lifetime,” Calla advised. “Especially not when it comes around the second time.”
Just because she loved him didn’t mean she could trust him. He’d run before. He’d stuck through the hard times and then walked out of her life, leaving her to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart and hopes.
“I’ve been suspicious for a while,” Dante said. The assignments started changing, and I started asking questions.
I want someone to be there at the end of the day. Someone who cares about me, someone I can’t wait to talk to. That’s the part that matters. It’s the sharing that counts, not the life in between.”
Waverly might not have been in love with Dante, but she did love him. She trusted him. And Xavier wanted that with her... and so much more. He wanted to be the one to give her everything, to make her laugh, to make her smile, to make her come. He wanted to be her everything.
She broke the kiss and dropped her forehead to his chest. “I love you, Xavier.” His fingers gripped her upper arms so hard she knew she’d have fingerprints on her skin. He squeezed his eyes closed tight. “Say it again,” he whispered, his voice rough as gravel. She kissed him first, lightly, sweetly. “I love you, Xavier Saint. Even more now. And even more every damn day. You’re my protector, my partner, my heart.”
“You are my heart and my center. Nothing means what it should without you. I want to build a life with you. I want to wake up holding you every damn day of my forever. I want to give you everything you’ve ever wanted. Normal, kids, maybe a couple of sloppy dogs. I want to spend the rest of my life making love to you every chance I get because I will never have enough of you.”
“Angel, baby, I need you to say it. I need to hear the words.” She nodded again, sucked in a breath. “I must be insane, but yes. Hell yes, I’ll marry you.” Xavier crushed her to him. “It’s about damn time,” he said before his mouth met hers.
