Secrecy, stigma, taboo, shame and judgement are enablers of this horrible illness when what we actually need is to expose how common this issue really is and confirm to those suffering that they are not alone.
we begin with prevention, identify symptoms, and develop a plan of action to reverse and hopefully stop the progression of the disease. So why don’t we do the same for individuals who are dealing with potentially serious mental illness?’
‘Failure is not an option!’ but in my opinion failure should be an option. Accepting failure should be encouraged as a way to learn from mistakes, turning students into rounded citizens rather than anxiety-ridden or depressed ones. I prefer the idea that it’s better to try and to fail than not to try at all. In the science community, ‘failing’ or ‘changing the plan’ is exactly how
learn what doesn’t work, taking us one step closer to discovering what does. I like this.
