“Allie,” I say, pulling back to meet her eyes. So soft and blue. So trusting, when she shouldn’t have trusted me at all. “Baby, I’m sorry, but I’m not letting you go.”
How is this man so tender and careful with me, and so shut off and forbidding with everyone else?
“Honestly, I’m starting to think our chances of keeping this quiet might be better if we give in. I’m losing my shit every time I see you and think I can’t have you. Every time one of my teammates pulls you into a hug, pretending they don’t want anything more than to be friends—which is bullshit, by the way. And the way you’re looking at me. Baby, I fucking love it, but if anyone catches that look, we’re done.”
“I didn’t mean to do it. I knew better, but somehow… I fell in love with you anyway.” The chaos that’s been tearing through my mind comes to a stop. “What?” I heard her wrong. She said she did something stupid. She was out with some guy. She— “I’m in love with you,” she whispers again. “I know it’s not what we talked about. I know we aren’t together anymore, and if you don’t feel the same way it’s okay, but I don’t—”

“I’d give you anything you want. But what are we talking about here? The next few months or—fuck, baby, please tell me you’re talking about longer.”
“I’m talking about where you go, I go… If that’s what you want?”
