“I am the Wolf.”
She’s looking at me like I’m fragile again, and I don’t know how to tell her that I’m easily the strongest person in this room. You don’t survive what I have without becoming bulletproof.
I’m the Wolf of Mounts Bay, and I can survive anything.
It’s time to put away the empty, cold shell I had to become to survive. I don’t know who the new version of myself will be, but I’m ready to find out.
“Do you need something? Your winning personality isn't exactly doing anything for me, and I have a class to get to.”
Who would have thought the way to civility with Avery's boys was by acts of violence toward Joey’s group?
“I've signed up for your tutoring. I haven't been given a time slot yet, but I'm hoping to just tag into Ash’s. Do you think you could do us both at once?”
classes, I make an important decision: I’m going to unleash the Wolf on these wealthy assholes and show them some real-life consequences for their terrible behavior.
“I didn’t go looking for them. I’m not a fucking stalker. I meant that I heard them when you released them. I’d been listening to your shit from the beginning, and I followed your career from there to Vanth. But don’t worry about going to school with a fan, I’m certainly not one now. I’ve fucking burned the shirt and deleted your shit from my phone. I have no interest in listening to music from a stuck-up, spoiled, rich brat. I’ll listen to music from people who are real and write lyrics from the heart.”
But I still feel guilty for having certain feelings about Ash. And Blaise and, fuck, Harley. I can’t forget the feelings I have for Harley.
Nothing makes my blood boil quicker than hearing the name my doped-up mother assigned me. Eclipse Starbright Anderson.
“No, you’ll walk your ass out of here, and you’ll do exactly what she said,” Blaise says, and I’ve never heard him so angry. “See, you’re encroaching on my study time, and she’s the best tutor I’ve ever had, so if I have to beat you senseless myself to keep her here and teaching me, then I will, Hanson. Are you ready to bleed by me again?”
It is not normal for a girl to be crushing on three guys this hard at the same damn time. I don’t want one of them, I want all three, even after everything they’ve done to me.
“Kid goes by his mom’s name. Arbour. Blond and blue-eyed like her, too. Apparently, he looks fuck-all like the O’Cronins.” My heart stops. Harley. Harley is the mobster’s son. ‘Honor before Blood’
“I’m afraid not. It’s come to my attention just how sought-after Arbour is.” He quirks an eyebrow at me, and I grin, forcing the bravado I don’t feel into it. “I’m a fickle sort of girl. It brings me great joy to be able to keep Harley from those who want him. I think I’ll keep him.”
“It’s a million dollars and a priceless fuckin’ favor.” “Tell him I’m buying Harley’s life with it, too. The envelope alone isn’t worth that, and he well knows it. Tell him I’ve picked my first inductee, and when he has questions, he can call me.”
When he touches me, I don’t want oxygen? I just want to consume him.
there is a small, handwritten note in the back. It’s not Matteo’s handwriting, so it would have to be from Diarmuid. Do not let Joseph Beaumont Sr know you’re looking into his son. His hands are bloodier than mine.
“If you're willing to do that for your enemy, then what you do for your friends must be really special.”
I try not to flinch, because I know if I push her away now, it will only make things worse for me. She doesn't get the chance to destroy him, though, as the far door leading into the courtyard opens and Rory walks out.
“This isn’t payment, it’s a white flag. And an olive branch. I want to be your friend.”
“I don't have friends either. I want one, and I want one as fierce as you.”
One of the very first lessons you’re taught as a sponsored candidate for the Twelve is that loyalty can only be given freely. Yes, you can hire someone, but there’s always the risk someone will offer them more money. You can torture and break someone, bend them to only serve you, but there are limits to what a broken person can do.
Avery swallows, and her eyes grow glassy. “I started to come around to the idea of being friends when you started messing with Joey. No one, has even been brave enough to take him on. When Harley showed up with his mom's necklace and told me we were done messing with you, I knew you would fit in with us.”
“Does he have a bank account? Give me the details, and I’ll transfer the cash across. I’ll do eighty-five so he has a buffer. Fucking boys.”
My phone pings again. I smile down at Avery’s text. Ash is a nightmare, Harley is pouting, and Blaise is pleading with me to seek therapy. I’m going to enjoy taking these boys down a notch or two. I’ll text you tomorrow x
