Chasing A Flawed Sun

You can’t expect him to come home and suddenly stop using. It’s not going to happen. It never does. It’s wishful thinking that an arrest will suddenly scare an addict straight—nothing can.

As long as people can identify someone they believe to be worse off than them, they can focus their negative energy on others and justify anything about themselves.

I was beaming inside with pride. I felt good. I felt strong. I knew I had just handed over a lot more than a bottle of wine. I just handed over everything that was bad inside of me.

There is no level to which we won’t descend, and I see it every day in the news.

The sun is my guide. It gives me the warmth. It kisses my skin like heroin once did.
