For both parents and patients it all seems to happen so fast: one day you’re going to Dairy Queen in the minivan after baseball practice, raucously singing along to “We Are the Champions,” and the next day you’re listening to a judge explain that Jacob has a choice between a length of juvenile detention and psychiatric care.
