“Good hearts get broken easily,
It’s only when we love that we make ourselves truly vulnerable, but without love, there is nothing that can touch our hearts.
A heart without love is a cold and impenetrable thing.
“Where did you come from?” he asks, shaking his head. I shrug. “Sometimes the universe knows exactly where a person should be and makes it happen.”
They are not dead who live in the hearts they leave behind,”
“It’s a Native American saying. I read it around the time my pop passed on.”
Who needs mascara when I could be shoveling shit? I hope they don’t make me shovel shit!
“I like what I see but I the proof of the pudding is in the eating.”
“Don’t forget you have mom on your side,” Xane says. “Never underestimate the power that a mother has over her sons.”
“You just need to be yourself,” he says. “Too many women think they need to mold themselves into something they’re not just to be what’s good for men.”
All you need to be in life is yourself. I’m not saying you need to go around being a bitch, but you don’t need to change yourself to fit in with anyone else’s expectations or needs, no matter who they are or how much you love them.”
"I know that," I tell him. "I know what it's like to feel like your heart has broken and will never repair unless the person you've lost comes back to life. But being on your own when you're suffering isn't right. Just let me come with you. I'll feel better for knowing you're okay."
I just wish there was something I could do to make this easier for him, but there isn't. We all have to face our grief alone.
“The penalty of love is loss,”
“Sometimes, fate just puts us exactly where we need to be at exactly the right time.”
Sometimes in the moment, we just need to be given time to vent. Only when the anger has died down, is it worth pointing things out that don’t quite fit with a person’s perception of a situation.
We have to love to be happy, and loss and hurt are just inevitable sides of love.”
What am I scared of?” I ask. “Of being alone. Of not being enough.”
Splitting heart and head leaves no one happy.
