Optimizers make their fortune by obsessively controlling their spending. Optimizers tend to have regular jobs, making decent but not insane salaries, and for the most part lead normal lives. What’s abnormal is how much time and effort they spend on tracking and accounting for every penny they spend. When a cashier asks, “Would you like your receipt?” the answer is always yes. That receipt gets stuffed into a folder, which then gets entered onto a spreadsheet, which then gets sliced and diced and analyzed as if it’s an alien microbe that holds the secret to immortality.
