All might not have been lost for the Trojans. The Greeks were as confused and bewildered by events as they were. If they could have mustered a force and got down to the old Greek ditch, and held firm, they could still have pushed the Greeks back into the sea.

The "they" from the third sentence should be contintuing the subject of the Greeks but I think we have moved back to the Trojans. Badly constructed paragraph

‘OK. Bohemia, 1265. Belgium, 1366 and Munich, 1385. As you can see, not the most obvious choices, but areas which, we feel, would benefit from a rigorous and thorough examination into the –’ I said, flatly, ‘Bohemia, 1265. King Otakar sets up the new town of Budweis and grants them a license to brew. 1366, the Stella Artois brewery is founded, and 1383 is, I believe, a very important date for lovers of Lowenbrau everywhere.’

Should we have 1385 or 1383. Difference in dates not explained so an error in proof reading?

Leonidas the Spartan, berated for arriving at Thermopylae with only three hundred troops pointed out that he’d brought three hundred professional soldiers and while everyone else may have brought thousands, they were only farmers and stable boys. The French should have paid more attention to the classics.

So true

The English had circled the wagons long before American settlers made that popular and placed their wounded – of whom there were remarkably few – in the middle.

Another example of the subject changing within a sentence. The "placing their wounded" should refer to the Americans but I think we are meant to know that the subject has revereted back to the English!
